Origin of the Stick Figure
Origin of the Stick Figure is a collection of drawings curated by artist Eliot Greenwald. In 2024, he mailed over 100+ custom pencils and paper to select artists, each with the simple instruction: “draw a stick figure.” This 240-page book features 113 contributing artists and serves as Eliot's analog collection of responses, showcasing the endless reactions and interpretations that can arise from a single prompt.
I collaborated closely with Eliot on the book concept, leading the art direction, layout, and final design. The book is designed as an oversized flipbook with a starkly minimalist approach, almost indicating the absense of design or importance of the book itself. The drawings are printed at actual size, with a subtle orange hue on each opposing page. The cover features a signature bright orange, complemented by accent ink inspired by the orange pencils provided to the artists.
The limited run book was launched at an opening at Harpers Books in New York in 2025, printed by Conveyor Studio and published by Junior Publishing in Brooklyn.
